Fairness in Girls’ Sports Act up for a hearing once again

December 18, 2026

State Senator Bryant Richardson

A week ago Tuesday the Fairness in Girls’ Sports Act was released for co-sponsorship. A hearing on the proposed legislation could take place as early as January 2026.

State Rep. Tim Dukes (R-Laurel) is once again the prime sponsor in the House.

The purpose of the Fairness in Girls’ Sports Act is to preserve the integrity of girls sports and to give guidance and protection to schools and associations in deciding how to proceed with policies concerning girls sports.

This is my third attempt at making sure female athletes are protected from unfair competition with biological males.

I am concerned about the lost opportunities for girls to receive recognition, rewards and even scholarships. These are girls who strive  hard to be the best, some working many hours a day, seven days a week to perfect their skills.

The U.S. Supreme Court has added two cases on transgender athletes to its docket that likely will be decided sometime next year.
