House Bill 315 has taken an important step forward in the legislative process. The bill will soon be considered by the full Delaware House of Representatives, where lawmakers will have the opportunity to review and vote on the measure.
HB 315 addresses an issue many restaurant owners and service workers have raised for years.
When a customer leaves a tip on a credit card, the credit card company still charges its processing fee on the entire transaction, including the tip.
That means a portion of the tip intended for servers, bartenders, and other service staff is often taken by credit card companies through swipe fees.
House Bill 315 would prohibit credit card companies from collecting processing fees on the tip portion of a transaction. Tips would go where they were intended to go: to the employees who earned them.
For restaurants and service workers across Delaware, this change could mean thousands of dollars staying in the pockets of workers instead of being lost to processing fees.
Now is the time to make your voice heard.
Ask the Delaware House to support HB 315 and vote YES to end credit card fees on tips.
