State Rep. Charles Postles (R–Milford North, Frederica), who has represented the 33rd Representative District since 2016, has announced that he will not seek reelection in 2026.
Postles, 76, said he came to the decision after recovering from a recent illness and to have more time to deal with personal family issues.
“I have been wrestling with this over for the past several months,” Rep. Postles said. “After speaking with my family, a few colleagues, and praying for guidance, I concluded that this was the best course of action.
“I have been blessed to work for the people of the 33rd District,” he continued. “While I have often been disappointed by the laws that have emerged from Legislative Hall, I believe I did everything within my power to represent my constituents’ perspectives and resolve problems they had with the state bureaucracy.”
Rep. Postles was born and raised in Kent County. He attended public school in Frederica, graduated from Milford High School, and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Business Management at the University of Delaware, where he met his wife, Janet.
Rep. Postles’s first job was with Farm Credit, a lending company catering to the unique needs of farmers. However, he has spent most of his life as a poultry farmer, an occupation he continues to practice as a grower for Perdue.
Rep. Postles has actively supported the agricultural community in the General Assembly and is one of the few active farmers serving in the legislature. He is also an advocate for improving public education and protecting citizens' rights from governmental intrusion.
He is a member of the influential Joint Finance Committee, a group of 12 state lawmakers that writes the annual state operating budget. During the current session, he co-sponsored legislation creating the new Delaware Department of Veterans Affairs. He also co-sponsored pending legislation to improve the availability of affordable electricity, reduce the incidence of Type II Diabetes, and break the tight controls imposed by some farm equipment manufacturers preventing owners from repairing their own gear.
The 33rd Representative District is located in southeast Kent County. It includes all or portions of the municipalities of Milford, Frederica, Bowers, Magnolia, and Houston.
