RADAR SPEED CAMERAS ON RT 1 IN LEWES

ree

Beginning Tuesday, October 21, DelDOT deployed Radar Speed Camera detection equipment on southbound State Route 1 in the Minos Conaway Road Grade-Separated Intersection work zone in the Lewes area.

Signage and a message board warning drivers of the speed camera placement have been placed on Route 1 south in advance of the work zone.

The first 21 days will serve as a warning period, during which motorists will incur no violations.

Under Delaware Code, citations using Radar Speed Cameras are issued only if a vehicle is exceeding the posted speed limit by at least 11 mph.

Beginning Tuesday, November 11, registered vehicle owners receiving a first offense will receive a base violation of $20 and an additional $1 added for each mile per hour over the posted work zone speed limit.

For example, if the captured violation occurs at a speed of 61 mph, the fine would be $20 plus an additional $11 ($1 for each mile per hour over the 50-mph limit imposed in the work zone). The assessment of additional fees, as outlined in the Delaware Code, would raise the total for this hypothetical violation to $118.

Second and subsequent offenses would carry stiffer penalties. These violations are civil penalties. No points will be assessed on driver's licenses.
