Honoring Our Veterans and the Responsibility of the Next Generation

A message from Daniel Willis, Chairman, Sussex County Republican Party

November 11, 2025

Fellow Republicans,

As we gather in reflection this Veterans Day, we honor the men and women whose courage, discipline, and devotion have safeguarded our nation throughout its history. Their service, whether on land, at sea, in the air, or in any other domain, has preserved the freedoms we rely upon every day.

Here in Sussex County, we are privileged to live among veterans and military families whose contributions continue long after their uniforms come off. Their steadiness, leadership, and example guide our communities and remind us that service is not a chapter. It is a lifelong mark of character.

It is also important to recognize that veterans are not only those who served many years ago. Today, an 18-year-old American can join the military, serve a full seven-year contract, deploy to foreign soil, carry the weight of combat, and still be a young man or woman by the time they separate, or even retire. Their youth does not diminish their sacrifice. In many cases, it deepens it.

For countless veterans, service does not end with discharge. Many carry invisible wounds that are not seen but are deeply felt. The struggles of reintegration, the memories of deployment, and the quiet burdens they bear deserve our acknowledgment, our respect, and our commitment to ensuring that no veteran fights their personal battles in silence or alone.

Today, we honor them all. We honor those who served in years past, those who served in recent conflicts, and those who are serving at this very moment. We also recognize that the mantle of responsibility rests with the next generation. Young Americans continue to choose, every day, to stand where those before them once stood.

On behalf of the Sussex County Republican Party, thank you to every veteran in our county and across this nation. Your courage shapes our present, and your example guides our future. May we always strive to be worthy of the freedoms you defended, and may we never forget the cost at which they were secured.

With deep respect,

Daniel Willis

Chairman, Sussex County Republican Party
