To the Delaware Republican Party and the Delegates of the April 25 Convention, as well as the people of Delaware,
I am deeply honored by the confidence you have shown in me during the recent convention, as evidenced by your nomination and endorsement of me as your candidate for Attorney General.
For those who were not in attendance, I believe it is important to provide clarity as to what transpired. First, I was not at the convention and did not seek nomination. Second, at the time of the convention, the party did not have a declared candidate for Attorney General. Third, in response, delegates took the extraordinary step of effectively “drafting” me as a candidate. This action was not the result of a formal candidacy, but rather a strong and unified expression of support intended to encourage me to consider entering the race. I am truly grateful and honored by that encouragement and for the trust placed in me.
Since 2020, I have had the privilege of stepping forward time and again to fight for the principles we all share, including defending our Constitution and the rule of law. That commitment has taken many forms, from challenging the Governor in court, to running in a six-way primary for Governor and continuing through the general election, to leading an intense campaign for Attorney General in 2022. In 2023, when it became clear that our party itself needed strengthening, I stepped forward to serve as Chair, leading through one of the most consequential elections of our time, and continued in that role when called upon again in 2025.
That service extended further when I was asked personally by President Trump to serve our country and our state as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware. While my tenure was short, I worked to bring meaningful change here in Delaware by building partnerships with law enforcement and advancing initiatives that are making a real impact across our state. I worked across party lines and was politically neutral in how I ran the office, only to be discarded as viable by Senators Coons and Blunt Rochester, not because of any performance issues, but because of their objections to President Trump and the Department of Justice.
Through it all, I have consistently chosen to put service first. I remain proud of that commitment, of what has been accomplished, and I am humbled by the many people who have stood alongside me throughout this journey.
After careful consideration and thoughtful prayer, I have decided that I will respectfully decline the nomination for Attorney General.
This decision was not made lightly. I have been inundated with text messages and calls from people who are excited and want to help. I have great respect for the importance of this office and for the responsibility that comes with seeking it. While I am honored by the delegates’ efforts to draft me into the race, I believe it is important that we continue working to identify and support a candidate who is prepared to step forward to serve right now, because I am not. I think many people do not realize the sacrifice entailed in running for office. It is a big ask.
I am sincerely thankful for the encouragement, the trust, and the confidence that so many of you have shown in me. I remain committed to supporting our Republican candidates and to advancing the values we all believe in across Delaware.
Thank you again for this honor and for your continued dedication to our party and our state.
