Since the blizzard began impacting our area on Sunday afternoon, our team has restored power to 60,000 homes. After more than 80 hours of continuous restoration work, we are proud to share that power has now been restored to members affected by this historic storm! We know it has been a long week for those who were without power, and we are grateful that the lights are back on across Kent and Sussex counties.
This was the most impactful storm to strike our service territory since the ice storm of 1994. At the height of the storm, nearly half of our electric system was offline. Crews faced hundreds of downed trees, more than 40 broken poles, and countless additional repairs before full restoration could be achieved. Despite these challenges, our employees and neighboring utility crews delivered a strong, coordinated response centered on safety, transparency and efficient restoration.
Power was restored across our entire system because of the dedication of our employees and the mutual aid crews who answered our call for help. We extend our sincere thanks to our partners from Rappahannock Electric Cooperative, Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative, and Northern Neck Electric Cooperative, who traveled from Virginia to assist us. The cooperation among Mid-Atlantic electric cooperatives this week is a powerful testament to the strength of the not-for-profit utility model that puts people first.
We want to thank you — our members — for your patience, encouragement and grace during extended outages. Many families were understandably concerned about the impact of being without power, and your support meant a great deal to our team working long hours in difficult and dangerous conditions. Our crews are going to get some rest, and we can’t wait for the arrival of spring!
