NEW DMV FEES EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 2025

ree

The Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is alerting vehicle owners that multiple fees for services and transactions will be increasing in October, starting tomorrow.

Effective October 1, the document fee charged when titling a vehicle in Delaware will increase from 4.25% to 5.25%.

The fee hikes are the result of the enactment of House Bill 164, a bill proposed by the Delaware Department of Transportation to boost Transportation Trust Fund revenue, which pays for the agency's operations, road construction, and maintenance. The bill also includes new fees on electric vehicles and hybrids that go into effect tomorrow.

State Rep. Danny Short was one of 13 House members who voted against the measure, arguing there were other options to the fee increases.

Other changes effective October 1:

·     A dealership license renewal fee – $50.00

·     A dealership application fee for new dealers – $100.00

·     Specialty license plate creation fee for organizations interested in a new background or organizational license plate – $200.00

Other fees, associated with driver's license fees, will increase as of October 10. The complete list of DMV services and associated new fees can be accessed by clicking here.
