Dear Sussex County Republicans,
This past week, I had the opportunity to sit down with Coast TV (NBC affiliate) reporter Zakiya Jennings alongside Representative Timothy Dukes, House Minority Leader, to address the ongoing absence of 20th District Representative Stell Parker Selby and the silence that has surrounded it.
From all corners of our county, we continue to hear the same message:
“We want answers. We want transparency. We want representation.”
That outcry motivated our initial letter and continues to drive our efforts behind the scenes to get clear, direct updates for voters.
Why now? The timing of this interview was deliberate. We’ve just come out of a two-week legislative break and are heading into Memorial Day and the final stretch of the General Assembly’s session, a time often marked by back-and-forth days and legislative lulls. We wanted to make sure one thing stayed top of mind: Republicans have been the consistent voice calling for accountability and transparency.
This is also a textbook example of what strong communication and partnership between the County Party and legislative leadership should look like. I want to sincerely thank Representative Dukes and the entire House Republican Caucus for their leadership and collaboration in standing up for the voters of Sussex County.
What’s the Status of a Special Election?
Unfortunately, under the Delaware Constitution, a special election can only be called when there’s a vacancy, and only the Speaker of the House has the authority to call it. Since Representative Parker Selby was sworn in at a private ceremony at her home, the seat is technically not vacant, even though voters in the 20th District remain without active representation.
We encourage registered voters in the 20th District to continue expressing your concerns directly to the Speaker of the House’s office about this troubling lack of representation.
What You Can Do:
Watch and share the Coast TV interview with friends, family, and on social media to raise awareness:
Stand with District 20. In solidarity, we ask: can you chip in $20 today to help us keep fighting for the voters who currently have no voice in Dover? Your donation directly supports our efforts to push for answers and stand up for Republican values across Sussex County.
I’ll leave you all with the quote I shared in the story: "The motivating factor from initially sending out the letter, to continuing to apply pressure behind the scenes on our legislators to get clear answers, to ultimately doing this interview can be summarized as follows: ‘The footprint is as big as the shoe. You cannot divorce yourself from the impact of your actions—or, in this case, within the Democrat Party, the inaction.’"
