Urgent Call to Action: Secure Our Elections with the SAVE Act!

February 6, 2026

We are reaching out today with a critical message about the future of our democracy.

In a time when trust in our elections is more fragile than ever, we have a clear path forward to restore integrity and ensure every vote counts: the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act.  This vital legislation, passed by the U.S. House in April 2025 and now awaiting Senate action, requires simple proof of U.S. citizenship – like a passport or birth certificate – for voter registration in federal elections. It's commonsense reform to protect our sacred right to vote from fraud and abuse.

But Democrats are fighting tooth and nail against it. Why? Because their so-called "arguments" against voter ID don't hold water – they're just excuses to keep the system vulnerable. Let's dismantle their claims one by one and expose the truth: the only logical reason to oppose voter ID is to make it easier to cheat.

Democrat Claim #1: Voter ID Suppresses Votes, Especially for Minorities and the Poor

  • This is the go-to talking point from groups like the Brennan Center and the League of Women Voters, who argue that requiring ID creates barriers for low-income, elderly, and minority voters. They point to statistics showing that some Americans – about 11% overall, and higher among certain groups – lack easy access to government-issued photo IDs or citizenship documents. But here's the reality: Polls consistently show overwhelming support for voter ID across all demographics. A 2025 Pew Research Center survey found 83% of Americans favor photo ID requirements, including majorities of Democrats (62%), independents (87%), and minorities (84%). Even Gallup's 2024 poll showed 83% support for proof of citizenship when registering to vote.

  • If voter ID truly suppressed votes, why do states with strict ID laws, like Georgia and Texas, see record turnout? The truth is, these laws don't block eligible voters – they empower them by building confidence in the system. And for those who need help getting documents? States can provide free IDs, and the SAVE Act allows alternatives like military IDs or consular reports. Democrats' suppression narrative is a myth designed to scare people away from real security measures. Without strong verification, how do we stop noncitizens or out-of-state fraudsters from diluting your vote?

Democrat Claim #2: Voter Fraud is Rare, So ID Isn't Needed

  • Opponents love to cite studies claiming in-person voter fraud is "extremely low" – just 0.00004% of ballots, according to the Brennan Center. They say noncitizen voting is negligible, so why bother? But this ignores the bigger picture. Instances of noncitizen registration and voting may be underreported because, without proof of citizenship, how would we even know? The SAVE Act addresses this gap by shifting verification from self-attestation (just checking a box) to actual documents – a change that's long overdue.

  • Republicans aren't imagining threats; we're responding to them. In states without strong checks, we've seen cases of noncitizens on voter rolls, and the potential for abuse grows with lax federal rules. As Rep. Chip Roy, the SAVE Act's sponsor, has said, this bill protects "the integrity and sanctity of American elections." Polls show Americans agree: 80% in a Monmouth University survey back photo ID to prevent fraud. If fraud is so rare, why fight a simple safeguard? The logical conclusion: Opposing ID keeps the door open for manipulation.

Democrat Claim #3: Getting ID is Too Burdensome and Costly

  • Critics whine about the "costs" – $75 to $175 for documents, plus travel to offices. But this is exaggerated fearmongering. Many states already offer free voter IDs, and the SAVE Act doesn't mandate new fees. Plus, half of Americans already have passports, and birth certificates are readily available. Compare that to everyday life: You need ID to board a plane, buy alcohol, or even enter a federal building. Why should voting – the cornerstone of our republic – be any less secure? Democrats' resistance isn't about cost; it's about control. By blocking the SAVE Act, they're prioritizing potential illegal votes over the voices of lawful Delaware citizens.

Let's be clear: In Delaware, we do not require photo voter ID at the polls. Voters are merely asked for proof of identity – which can be non-photo items like a signed polling place card, utility bill, or Social Security card – and if they don't have it, they can simply sign an affidavit affirming who they are and vote anyway.

  • This loose system leaves our elections wide open to abuse, with no hard proof required to confirm eligibility or citizenship at registration or the polls. The SAVE Act would fix that for federal races by mandating documentary proof of citizenship upfront, ensuring only U.S. citizens decide our future. But without it, the system invites cheating – double voting, noncitizen ballots, or worse. Why else would Democrats label it "Jim Crow 2.0" or claim it "undermines freedom to vote," as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has? Their hysteria reveals the stakes: A secure system levels the playing field, and that's what they fear.
