From Chairman Truono's Desk: From Minnesota to Delaware: Democrat Rhetoric Endangers Lives

Gene Truono, Chairman of the Delaware Republican Party

Dear Fellow Delaware Republicans,

As State Chair of the Delaware Republican Party, I am deeply troubled by the recent events in Minnesota that expose the dangerous lengths to which Democrats will go to undermine federal law enforcement. Independent journalist Cam Higby infiltrated Signal group chats revealing top Democrats, including Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan and former staffers from Gov. Tim Walz's administration, organizing protesters to track federal agents' license plates and build illegal databases for doxxing purposes. This is not just reckless activism, it's a federal crime that endangers the lives of those sworn to protect our nation from threats like criminal gangs and traffickers.

The death of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old man killed during an ICE operation in Minneapolis on January 25, 2026, is a heartbreaking consequence of this inflammatory rhetoric. Just weeks earlier, the fatal shooting of Renee Good, a nurse killed after ramming an agent with her car on January 7, 2026, during another raid intensified the unrest. Democrats have spent years calling on citizens to resist and interfere with federal immigration enforcement, creating an environment where law-abiding agents are vilified as "paramilitary" forces. By fueling this fire, they bear responsibility for the chaos that led to such violence, turning routine operations into powder kegs.

This isn't isolated to Minnesota, sadly, it's a national Democrat pattern. Here in Delaware, Gov. Matt Meyer and other Democrats have echoed the same divisive language as Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, threatening to arrest ICE agents "if they break the law." But let's be clear: this is a thinly veiled attempt to undermine federal authority and encourage borderline insurrection against the U.S. government. When state leaders openly defy immigration laws, they invite anarchy and put our communities at risk.

We cannot allow this radical agenda to take root in Delaware. Our law enforcement deserves support, not sabotage, and our citizens deserve safety, not division. As Republicans, we stand for the rule of law and urge all Delawareans to reject this dangerous path. Together, we can ensure our state remains secure and united.

Sincerely,

Gene Truono

Chairman of the Delaware Republican Party
