Community Meeting Announced: Join Representative Bryan Shupe on April 20 in Lincoln
State Representative Bryan Shupe invites residents to attend an upcoming community meeting on April 20 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Evelyn I. Morris Early Childhood Center (8609 3rd Street, Lincoln). The event is free and open to the public, offering an opportunity for residents to hear updates on key legislative issues and share feedback directly.
“I encourage everyone to come out, stay informed, and be part of the conversation about the future of our community,” said Shupe. “Your voice matters.”
During the meeting, Representative Shupe will discuss his legislative priorities focused on lowering costs for families, expanding healthcare access, and improving government transparency.
Addressing Rising Energy Costs
Representative Shupe highlighted the growing burden of energy costs on Delaware families, pointing to policies that require utilities to purchase higher cost energy sources.
To address this, he introduced Senate Bill 64, which aims to remove mandates and promote flexibility and competition in the energy market. He also supported House Bill 50, which would return funds collected for green energy programs directly to ratepayers to help offset rising utility costs.
“Energy policy should prioritize affordability and reliability for families,” Shupe said.
Expanding Healthcare Access and Reducing Costs
Shupe emphasized the need for greater competition in Delaware’s healthcare system, particularly addressing the state’s Certificate of Need law, which requires providers to obtain government approval before expanding services or investing in equipment.
He is sponsoring House Bill 318 to eliminate these requirements, allowing providers to expand based on patient needs rather than regulatory barriers.
Additionally, Shupe is proposing to redirect taxpayer funding toward programs that provide lifesaving medications such as insulin and epinephrine auto injectors to minors, helping families save money and reducing costly emergency room visits.
Promoting Transparency and Accountability
Improving government transparency remains a top priority. Shupe introduced House Bill 272 to require agency reports to be presented at public hearings and posted online.
He is also advancing efforts to create a public system for tracking Freedom of Information Act requests and introduced House Bill 233 to require financial literacy training for legislators.
“Taxpayers deserve to know how their money is being spent,” Shupe said. “Lawmakers must fully understand the financial decisions they are making.”
Tax Relief for Working Families
Shupe continues to advocate for tax reforms to ease the burden on Delaware families. He has worked to eliminate automatic property tax increases tied to reassessment and has supported legislation to reduce personal income taxes, eliminate taxes on overtime and tips, and end the gross receipts tax on small businesses.
“These reforms are about putting more money back into the pockets of hardworking Delawareans and supporting local businesses,” he said.
“As a father, husband, Christian, and small business owner, my priorities are rooted in the same values shared by so many in our community: family, faith, hard work, and accountability,” Shupe added. “I remain committed to lowering costs, expanding opportunity, and increasing transparency in government.”
