The idea is simple: a chance for Sussex County Republican Party families and friends to gather, relax, and enjoy a picnic together.
Not a fundraiser. Not a meeting. No agenda.
Gather on Saturday, July 11th from 3 - 7 PM at the Cypress Point Pavilions in Trap Pond State Park for a picnic. Everyone brings their own food, beverages and picnic supplies.

The only cost is the small Trap Pond State Park fee of $5 for cars with Delaware plates. The fee for out of state cars is $10.

Campground Office and Store
This is the building where you stop to pay your fee at the window.
Go Inside! Visit the Store!
They sell ICE and ICE CREAM!
Plus the store is stock with snacks and toys.
ABOUT OUR RESERVED PICNIC AREA AT
CYPRESS POINT
Everyone brings their own food, beverages and picnic supplies.
Picnic Location: 15702 Goose Nest Rd, Laurel DE. 19956
This is also the entrance for the Campground.
The main entrance to the Park is 33587 Cypress Dr. where you'll find the playground, pedal boats, boats to rent, Nature Center and more.
From Goose Nest Rd. turn on to Jason Beach Rd.
Stop at the window of the Park Office/Camp store to pay your fee. Cash and credit card are accepted. Go straight ahead on Jason Beach Rd to the large parking lot. About a 2 minute ride.
Parking: The large parking lot holds 70 cars. The public also parks in this lot. Handicap spaces are provided. It's a short walk to the Pavilions. Cars are not allowed to drive to the pavilions unless dropping off a handicapped person.
Restrooms: The building is by the parking lot. The walking path to the pavilions is to the right of the restroom building.
Pavilions: Both a screened and open pavilion are reserved. There are 9 picnic tables in the Screened Pavilion and 8 picnic tables in the Open Pavilion.
Reserved vs Open Tables: Tables outside the pavilions are open to the public on a first come basis - this includes us!
Electric and Water: A water pump is just outside the screened pavilion. Each pavilion has an electric outlet at each end, plus one is on the outside of the screened pavilion by the water pump.
Lights: Only in the Screened Pavilion.
Grills: The park provides one large and one small grill between the pavilions. You can bring your own grill. It must remain outside the pavilions. Both charcoal and propane types are allowed.
Music: Live music is allowed but no amplification.
Pets: Are allowed but need to be on a leash at all times.
Alcohol: Allowed, of course only for over 21.
Games: Outside the screened pavilion is - a large volleyball net, 2 sets of corn hole and 2 sets of horseshoes.
Boating: You can put your own kayak or canoe in the water right by the pavilions. Boat rental and a boat ramp are available in another part of the park. No swimming from Cypress Point.
Not Allowed: Glass containers, keg beer, tents or canopies, amusement devices such as moon bounces, balloons, glitter, glow sticks, confetti, birdseed, artificial flowers, smoking in the pavilions.
ALSO: No permanently affixing decorations or damaging park property such as with nails, tacks or tape.

Your State Park fee let's you enjoy all Trap Pond has to offer from 8 AM to 8 PM.
Be transported to another world amid Trap Pond’s baldcypress swamp – the northernmost naturally occurring stand of baldcypress in the U.S. Take in the unique sights, smells and sounds of the pond’s ecosystem, including a diverse array of plant, fish and bird species. With more than nine miles of water trails and even more water for free exploration, Trap Pond is a paddling dream! Abundant hiking and biking, a fan-favorite campground, fun playground, unique educational programs and more await at Trap Pond.

Pontoon Boat Tour
Enjoy a relaxing and informative one hour boat tour of Trap Pond while viewing its natural beauty and learning about its inhabitants.
Pontoon Boat Tour: Reserved Seats
Time: 9 - 10 AM
These tickets are for individual seats on the pontoon boat.
To make a reservation for your family/household group, call the Baldcypress Nature Center directly at 302-875-5163. Adults $8, Children (Age 12 and under) $4.

Pontoon Boat Tour: Walk On
Time: 10 - 11 AM
These are first come, first served boat tours. No prior reservations are needed or allowed.
Sign up at the boathouse as early as 9 am, the day of the tour. $8 for adults, $4 children 12 and under.

The Baldcypress Nature Center
shows our connection to water and the Chesapeake. The exhibits include an 18’ replica baldcypress tree, 500-gallon floor aquarium and waterfall feature showcasing the fish species found at Trap Pond, a virtual pontoon tour of the pond, and numerous other areas to discover. Note: The nature center hours are 10 AM to 4 PM.

Walk or Bike the Bob Trail
Hike or bike the 4.6 mile Bob Trail which loops the park. The trail is an excellent place for birdwatching, and you'll enjoy pondside views of the cypress swamp.
Visitors can enjoy free bike rentals during the summer months.


Explore by Boat
Take in the sights, sounds and smells as you journey into the cypress swamp. Bring your own boat or rent a canoe, kayak or pedalboat in the park.
Check the water trails to explore more and get up close and personal with the park's flora and fauna.
