What this Council does often sets the example town boards follow, while sister counties watch closely, and the values practiced here have long influenced government culture across Delaware.
I think we know Sussex values have been among the last to hold steady in our state. People are drawn here for the quality of life those values created; yet the pressure to reshape the very way of life that built it is real and growing, and I’ve often found the weight of the seat shows up in meetings like this.
Honestly the work happens in conversations like these: listening, discussing consequences, and determining how to keep pace with the world, while keeping Sussex culture and values the same.
These choices quietly determine the character we keep, and I think there is more at stake than probably anyone can imagine. Individual issues mean little if the broader direction quickly erodes what generations built.
I see Sussex through a very specific lens because I’ve spent my life’s work and built deep roots here, and I just know that is not something easily replaced.
