Senator Hocker Responds to USPS Update on Ocean View Post Office Renovations

April 9, 2026

Sen. Gerald Hocker

Senator Gerald Hocker today issued the following statement in response to the United States Postal Service’s recent update regarding the timeline for renovations to the Ocean View Post Office:

“While I appreciate the USPS finally providing a timeline for the long-awaited renovations to the Ocean View Post Office, I remain deeply concerned about both the timing and the delay in communication surrounding this project.

It is particularly troubling that construction is scheduled to begin at the start of the busy summer beach season and extend through the height of that season, concluding only in late September. This timeframe places an unnecessary and significant burden on residents of Millville, Ocean View, and Clarksville.

Throughout the summer months, these residents will be forced to rely on the Bethany Beach Post Office, where they will encounter heavy traffic, limited parking, and longer wait times. Additionally, this situation will place considerable strain on the employees at the Bethany Beach facility, who will be tasked with serving a substantial increase in customers during their busiest time of year.

Equally concerning is the length of time it took for USPS to respond to this issue and provide clarity to the public. That delay is unacceptable. The residents served by the Ocean View Post Office deserve far better communication and planning when it comes to essential services.

I will continue to advocate for our communities to ensure their concerns are heard and that every effort is made to minimize disruption during this process.”
