From Chairman Truono's Desk: Honoring Jim Weldin's Dedicated Service: From Delaware GOP Vice Chair to Acting U.S. Marshal

March 9, 2026

Gene Truono, Chairman of the Delaware Republican Party

Dear Fellow Delaware Republicans,

As we gather our strength and momentum heading into the critical 2026 midterm elections, I want to take a moment this Monday to recognize the dedicated service of one of our party's steadfast leaders: Jim Weldin, who has recently resigned as Vice Chairman of the Delaware Republican Party.

Jim's note to the party captures the essence of his lifelong commitment and the optimism he brings to our cause. I share his words here, as they reflect the spirit of perseverance and hope that defines our movement:

"I have been involved in Republican politics since I was 11 years old. I was fortunate to have seen some great party successes, but over the past 20 years, we have been severely challenged.

However, with President Trump's election and the success of his policies, a significant turnaround is underway. I have had the pleasure of serving as the Vice Chair to both Julianne Murray and Gene Truono.

Under their steady leadership, we embarked on developing a strategic plan to enhance our messaging, target specific voters using data analytics, and raise funds to achieve these objectives. This is a formula for success emboldened by the disastrous policies of the Democrats, who are ruining this state. We are now implementing that plan, which will only succeed by the hard work of each Representative District Committee. I urge you all to work together to implement a plan that will save our state.

I have been honored to have received an appointment to the United States Marshals Service as a Senior Advisor, and the Attorney General has designated me as the Acting US Marshal for the District of Delaware.

As a result of this appointment, I have resigned as the Vice Chair and will go on to serve our best President in my lifetime. Thank you for all your support, and please pray for the mission of President Trump and Attorney General Bondi to make America a safe and prosperous nation."

Jim's journey—from his early involvement in Republican politics at age 11 to his key role in our party's recent strategic advancements—exemplifies the dedication that has sustained our party through tough times. His service alongside Chair Julianne Murray and now-Chair Gene Truono helped lay the groundwork for the data-driven, targeted, and well-funded approach that positions us to challenge one-party Democrat rule in Delaware.

His new role as Acting U.S. Marshal for the District of Delaware is a tremendous honor and a testament to his integrity, experience, and commitment to public service. We congratulate Jim on this prestigious appointment and thank him sincerely for his years of leadership within the Delaware GOP. His transition to federal service in support of President Trump's mission to restore safety and prosperity aligns perfectly with the values we all hold dear.

While we bid farewell to Jim in his party role, his message rings clear: our strategic plan is in motion, fueled by the failures of Democrat policies that have harmed Delaware families, businesses, and communities. The path to victory in 2026 depends on the hard work of every Representative District Committee—uniting, organizing, and executing at the grassroots level.

In Delaware's small but mighty state, we have a unique advantage: we can build personal connections, mobilize voters effectively, and defy the projections that assume continued Democrat dominance. With your energy and involvement, we will flip seats, strengthen our coalition, and prove that conservative principles can prevail here.

  • Get involved now: Join your local Representative District Committee and help implement our strategic plan.

  • Volunteer and recruit: Reach out to friends, family, and neighbors who share our values—our small size means every conversation counts.

  • Pray and persevere: As Jim urged, let's keep President Trump's mission—and our shared goal of a safer, more prosperous Delaware—in our thoughts.

Together, we are building a powerful conservative coalition that will win in 2026. Jim Weldin's example inspires us: long-term commitment, strategic action, and faith in better days ahead.

Thank you for your continued dedication. Let's make 2026 the year Delaware turns the tide.

For Delaware and for America,

Gene Truono,

Chairman of the Delaware Republican Party
